How can you make a difference?

Under the supervision of the Regional Advisor - Social and Behaviour Change, this consultancy seeks to assist South Asia Country Offices and the Regional Office in accelerating applied Behavioral Science programming, by building capacities and operationalizing Social Research & Behavioural Science in real-time, optimizing the generation, analysis and use of data for evidence-based decision-making and action, both internally and externally to proactively guide SBCand sectoral programming and support the multisectorial interventions; thus, contributing to agenda UN 2.0, by increasing uptake of healthy behaviors and vaccines, changing social norms and address gender barriers, increasing girls' enrolment and retention in schools etc.

Key Assignments and Tasks

In close collaboration and coordination with the programme and cross-sectoral sections/units in ROSA and the Country Offices:

    1. Co-creating a comprehensive social research & behavioural science initiative curriculum while reviewing and upgrading the existing resources training packages
    2. Implementing a multi-level research-based collaboration platform and methodology and knowledge exchange mechanism on behavioral science approaches while supporting ongoing joint initiatives
    3. Conducting Capacity development and training activities on behavioural science research for regional and country offices
    4. Providing technical assistance to countries to advance the coordination of centralized data center for behavioural research and applied behavioral science int ervent ions
    5. Developing training package's topical content on concepts and methods from behavioral sciences aimed at general audiences and staff

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education: Masters degree or Behavioural Science, Anthropology, Sociology, or any other relevant field.

Experience:

  • At least 8 years of proven experience in behavioural science
  • Previous experience with developing research tools and methodologies, focused on assessing behavioural drivers, social dynamics etc.
  • Experience in the region would be an asset
  • Excellent writing, planning and coordination skills, with proven ability to work independently.

Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required; another UN or regional (South Asia) language is an asset though not mandatory.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
