Under the supervision of the Innovation Manager (Health), Product Innovation Centre and in close collaboration with the Technical Specialist, Health Technology Centre, the consultant will:

Manage two New-born Health Product Innovation Projects (****Bilirubinometer and Radiant Warmer – Target Product Profiles for these products are here):

  • Based on desk top analysis, including review of scientific and other publications, updating product landscapes and phone interviews, ensure thorough understanding and documentation of the need for given product
  • Support the validation that products, if available, would be scalable given UNICEF programmatic and country specific contexts and needs.
  • Create and deliver a plan which is aligned with the Innovation Strategy for how to drive procurement, implementation, and scale
  • Support the process of putting products into the UNICEF Supply catalogue

    Establishment and project management of the two Product Innovation Projects (PIPs)

  • Ensure appropriate project management, including planning and execution to achieve timely results

  • Ensure effective management of all project stakeholders
  • Create project documentation including Innovation Review Board submissions, proposals and presentations for high-level endorsement
  • Provide relevant support to the Strategy Unit in engagements with donors and partners working in the New-born health space

Support the New-born health platform PIP and other health PIPs

  • Provide input to technical documents and discussions
  • Support the convening of advisory committees where relevant (and manage related meetings)
  • Contribute to project activities as may be necessary

How can you make a difference?

Scope of Work/Key deliverables:

Take two product innovation projects through the innovation process and support platform PIP activities.

Ensure appropriate planning of two new New-born Health Product Innovation Projects and support of the New-born Health platform PIP. The consultant will deliver the following for each of the two new projects (using existing documentation where available in consultation with Technical Specialist, Health Technology Centre):

Project specific documentation per UNICEF Product Innovation Centre standard framework

  1. Innovation Strategy
  2. Innovation Review Board Submission Documents (internal documentation)
  3. Project Presentation
  4. Project brief
  5. SharePoint page for project
  6. Monitoring Framework
  7. Maintain a project plan with timelines

    Milestone documentation

  8. Document detailing the need to engage, approach to validating demand and plan to drive scale of products.

  9. Coordinate the tender process, ensuring commercial and technical evaluations and processes are completed in an efficient manner.
  10. Document specifying demand forecasts and assumptions made
  11. Monitoring framework to capture user feedback on products.
  12. A final report for each project, delivering an overarching recommendation for whether and how UNICEF should engage

Travel international (if applicable):(WCARO, ESARO and ROSA)

Any travel will be reimbursed at per diem cost for the specific field location and ticket cost will be reimbursed for all approved trips related to the assignment, in line with UNICEF the travel rules (Tickets will be based on the most direct and economy class ticket irrespective of the duration of the journey).

Daily Substance allowance (If applicable)

Should there be a need for business travel, it will be arranged and paid for by UNICEF according to UN Travel Rules and Regulations.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

  • An advanced university degree in Health/medical related discipline, Innovation, or another discipline.A First university degree combined with additional two years of relevant work experience in new product development, innovation or project management or additional courses in relevant subjects will be considered in lieu of a master’s degree if the candidate can demonstrate high level of experience with related projects.

Professional Experience:

Minimum five years of relevant professional work experience in innovation or Medical field; at least two of which in running projects with a many stakeholders.

Language Skills:

  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in French is an advantage.

Qualified candidates are requested to submit:

  1. Cover letter/application.
  2. Financial quote at a daily rate in US Dollars including all taxes.
  3. P11 form if not applying through UNICEF Employment site
  4. At least 3 Reference contacts of current and previous supervisors
  5. Copy of a highest completed academic degree

Applications that meet minimum requirements will be assessed by the following breakdown:

70% Technical Qualifications as outlined in TOR

30% Financial Proposal

(Day rate, weighted against others, maximum 30 points)

Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
