How can you make a difference?

UNICEF Mozambique WASH programme works at national and decentralized level, with a variety of interventions covering both Enabling Environment, Field Implementation, Emergency preparedness and response, with a strong focus in supporting the Government of Mozambique to deliver WASH services according to national strategies and goals (service delivery through capacity building). Within the last CPD, the WASH in institutions component has increasing in focus and scope, requiring dedicated capacity to lead its implementation. The WASH Specialist level NO3 – WASH in Institutions (focus on HCFs) will manage the implementation of the WASH in HCF component of the UNICEF Mozambique WASH programme, reports to the WASH Specialist (Water supply) P4.

Purpose of the job: The WASH Specialist (WASH in Institutions - focus on HCFs) supports the development, preparation, management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the WASH programme within the country programme, especially the WASH in HCFs component. The Specialist provides technical guidance and management support throughout the programming processes, to facilitate the administration and achievement of the WASH-related output results in the country programme.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Masters) in one of the following fields is required: public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, water and sanitation engineering or another relevant technical field.
  • Additional relevant post-graduate courses that complement/supplement the main degree is a strong asset.
  • DEVELOPMENTAL: a minimum of five years of professional experience in WASH-related programmes for developing countries is required, especially in WASH in Institutions with focus on HCF
  • One year of deployment in a developing country is required.
  • HUMANITARIAN: Experience in planning and implementation of emergency response within the WASH or Health sectors, or specifically for WASH in HCFs is an asset
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese is required. Proficiency in other local languages is a strong asset.

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance. Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.

There will be no relocation package offered for this post. The successful candidate will be responsible for his/her own relocation and settlement in the city where the post is based.
