  • Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required.
  • Fluency in English is desirable.
  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.

Duties and Responsibilities

This position is located in the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Mexico City, within the Information Centres Service (ICS) of the Department of Global Communications (DGC). The UNIC is part of the global network of United Nations Information Centres (UNICs) and UNIC Mexico City is the principal source of information about the United Nations system in Mexico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic. It is responsible for promoting public understanding and support for the aims and activities of the United Nations by communicating the work of the UN to a local audience in local languages; engaging local and regional partners; and, overall, bringing the United Nations closer to the peoples it serves. In addition, UNICs lead the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and Resident Coordination Office (RCO) communications and advocacy functions. The incumbent is under the direct supervision of UNIC's Director and/or the Webmaster Assistant (G-6). The internship is UNPAID and in-person. The intern must cover full-time working hours, for up to a maximum of 6 months - 35 hours per week. General - Conduct cross-cutting analysis integrating data from multiple communications functions to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement. Systematize and standardize datasets from diverse sources to enable comparative analysis and consolidated reporting. - Support the development of analytical frameworks and common indicators to monitor overall communications performance. Digital Communications - Analyse the performance of digital communication strategies using metrics such as reach, engagement, conversion, and audience growth; Assess the effectiveness of digital content against strategic objectives and target audiences; Generate data-driven recommendations to optimize platforms, formats, and content strategies. Digital Media Analytics - Collect, clean, and analyse data from digital platforms (websites, social media, newsletters, surveys, etc.); Design and maintain dashboards, periodic reports, and data visualizations on digital performance; Apply basic statistical analysis to monitor trends, compare results, and assess impact; Select, manage, and integrate relevant digital and social media analytics tools. Information Integrity - Analyse open-source data to identify risks to information integrity; including disinformation; misleading narratives; and patterns of digital behaviour; Develop indicators and metrics for monitoring information integrity risks in digital environments; Document analytical methodologies and ensure the ethical and responsible use of data. Media Relations - Conduct quantitative and qualitative analysis of media coverage, including volume, reach, tone, and key themes; Identify trends in media engagement and institutional positioning; Support the development of metrics to assess the effectiveness and impact of media relations activities. Outreach and Advocacy - Analyse data from outreach and awareness-raising initiatives to assess effectiveness and audience engagement. Measure advocacy outcomes using quantitative and qualitative indicators. Generate insights to improve outreach and advocacy strategies based on evidence. Partnerships and Campaigns - Analyse the performance of campaigns and partnerships using metrics related to reach, engagement, and outcomes. Assess the contribution of partners to communications objectives. Identify best practices and opportunities to optimize joint campaigns through data analysis. - Perform other related tasks as required.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Languages

English and French are the official working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this position, fluency in oral and written Spanish is required. Fluency in English is desirable.
