Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities (www.unhabitat.org). UN-Habitat helps the urban poor by transforming cities into safer and healthier places with better opportunities. It works with organizations at every level, including all spheres of government, civil society, and the private sector.

The UN-Habitat Lebanon Country Programme was established in 2006 and has supported Lebanon’s response and recovery efforts to several crises, including the 2006 July War, the Syrian displacement crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, the Beirut Port explosion and the ongoing protracted socio-economic crisis. UN-Habitat has steered most of its activities to focus on responding to emerging issues through reconstruction, shelter provision, basic services upgrading, urban planning and capacity-building of local authorities while also laying the foundation for long-term sustainable solutions. The Head of Country Programme is responsible for overseeing overall management of the programme including fundraising; strategic planning; human resources management; procurement; financing; project design and implementation; and, relations with government and UN agencies.The intern will be under the direct supervision of the UN-Habitat, Lebanon, Head of Country Programme,

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Lebanon, Country Programme internship is for six (6) months.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Country Programme, the intern will: - Contribute to assembling briefing material, documentation, and correspondence for use in official meetings or missions. - Review documentation, reports, and written documents. - Support in organizing and coordinating various logistic arrangements for seminars, conferences, business travel, as well as other events. - Support in managing the Head of Country Programme’s calendar and provide inputs to talking points, speeches, remarks, or other documentation as necessary on a regular basis. - Prepare minutes of meetings. - Follow up on correspondence and prepare brief responses when necessary. - Facilitate and arrange appointments and meetings, exercising discretion in referring callers or visitors to other sources of information or services. - Undertake research on various topics of relevance to the mandate of UN-Habitat. - Support on technical portfolios across other units within the programme. - Follow-up and track tasks and action points allocated to different members of the UN-Habitat Lebanon Country Programme. - Support in managing and developing the Country Programme-wide filing system. - Support in proactively updating mailing lists and contact databases for the UN-Habitat Lebanon Country Programme. - Manage the Head of Country Programme’s social media accounts as necessary. - Perform any other tasks as assigned from time to time.

Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent

Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred areas of studies: Communications, Public Relations, International Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a similar related field.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Experience in ensuring accuracy and time efficiency while multitasking, especially in scheduling meetings and contacting various parties for meetings and events is required.

Experience to keep your work organized and have an overview of the tasks/engagements/meetings of the day ahead is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.
