Overview

You have:

  • Be enrolled in a first university degree programme and have completed one full academic year.
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme.
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree and must start the internship within one-year of graduation.
  • Demonstrate interest in the field of development.
  • Demonstrate written and spoken proficiency in at least one of the working languages: English and fluency in the local language.
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.
  • Some experience in working with development agencies, including in volunteer capacity.
  • Fluency in English language is required.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.

The Position:

The SRH Intern will support implementation, monitoring and reporting of SRH related projects in Tigray region.

You will report to the Sexual and Reproductive Health Specialist (SRH)

Job Purpose:

Under the overall leadership of the head of the sub office and technical guidance of Sexual and Reproductive Health Specialist (SRH), the SRH intern will be supervised and will report to the SRH Analyst. The Intern will support implementation, monitoring and reporting of SRH related projects in Tigray region.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • Be enrolled in a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent around health preferably public health, midwifery) and have completed one full academic year.
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as master’s programme or higher);
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree as defined above and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation; or
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.

Other eligibility requirements

  • Demonstrate interest in the field of development.
  • Demonstrate written and spoken proficiency in at least one of the working languages English and fluency in the local language.
  • Demonstrate ability to adapt to new environments and to establish and maintain good working relations with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.

A work-plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern enhancing her/his skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Some experience in working with development agencies, including in volunteer capacity.
  • Fluency in English. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Initiative, sound judgment and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with staff members from different national and cultural backgrounds.

Languages:

Fluency in English language is required.
