Org. Setting and Reporting UNICRI is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI' s goals are:

-to advance understanding of crime-related problems; -to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems; -to support the respect of international instruments and other standards; -to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance.

This position is located within UNICRI’s Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in The Hague, The Netherlands. The internship is for an initial period of 2 months, with an opportunity of the additional extension for up to a total period of 6 months. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Head, Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. This internship shall preferably commence in mid January 2022.

Due to the current international COVID19 emergency and related containment measures and international travel restrictions, the initial months of this internship may be done in TELECOMMUTING, i.e. remotely from home (depending on the COVID19 government regulations of the Netherlands). Therefore, the candidates will need to be able to telework and must have all necessary arrangements and equipment to perform assignments in teleworking.

Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Head of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, the intern will be involved in UNICRI activities concerning the role of artificial intelligence and robotics in law enforcement, crime prevention and control and health security. Examples of duties to be performed may include the following: −Conduct research and provide analysis on relevant issues. −Monitor regional and global news sources for relevant articles and stories. relevant to the project, programme or unit activities. −Identify and map the relevant community of stakeholders. −Assist in drafting, and preparing and reviewing official project proposal documents. −Assist in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, issue briefing notes, talking points, articles, presentations etc. −Assist in data collection. −Support the organization of meetings and conferences. −Attend and summarize conferences and meetings. −Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education −Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a.Be enrolled oh have recently graduated a second university degree or equivalent, or higher (Master's, PhD); b.Be enrolled in the final academic year or have recently graduated from a first level university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);

Studies relevant to the work of artificial intelligence robotics, law enforcement, crime prevention and control, health security or other related fields are desirable.

−Be computer literate in standard software applications. −Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; −Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official United Nations language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations.
