INTRODUCTION

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), an international non-governmental organization (NGO), has been providing relief and development services in the Horn of Africa since 1997. DRC promotes and supports solutions to the problems faced by refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and migrants. The organization has offices across the region, and has been operational in Ethiopia since 2009. With funding from bilateral and multilateral donors, DRC is currently implementing a range of activities across Ethiopia and Djibouti, including WASH and shelter provision, child and youth protection, Gender based violence response, awareness-raising of migration risks, protection monitoring of migration routes, and livelihoods support for returning migrants or those at-risk of migration.

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

DRC is a leading, international humanitarian organization that works with refugees and displaced persons. DRC responds to the needs of refugees and internally displaced persons in Ethiopia with a combination of protection assistance and multi- sector interventions tailored to local needs. The intern will work with safety coordinator in the office with Safety unit. The intern will assist in the safety operations of DRC in Addis Ababa and ensuring the safety and security of all DRC staff working in all 7 offices in the country.

Responsibilities and tasks;

  • Maintains and updates the Local safety rules of Addis and across the field offices liaising with safety focal points.
  • Updates staff communication trees in Addis and across field office, and runs tests for emergency preparations.
  • Monitor record of emergency data (RED) forms and ensure all staff fill out the forms.
  • Review country pre-arrival briefs and welcome materials and updates as needed. Ensures new staff receive prearrival briefs and constant companions in Addis office.
  • Communicates and liaise with SFP to constantly update documents hibernation and relocation plan, Local safety rules, communication tree, constant companion.
  • Monthly update MOSS and SLS excel on the safety level dashboard.
  • Assist in organising and coordinating safety and security related trainings and workshop
  • Liaises internally with all departments such as supply chain, finance and HR to follow up on safety operations
  • Creates and maintains a share point platform for accessible security related information for staff.
  • Contributes to the efforts of the safety coordinator with safety awareness raising, and other day to day safety tasks administration.
  • Creates a map using QGIS system and drafts content at the request of the safety coordinator.

Experience and Technical Competencies: (include years of experience)

  • Background in QGIS mapping, graphic designing, website development.
  • Strong skills in political analysis and knowledge about security risk management.
  • Strong intercultural sensitivity
  • Good English communication and writing skills.
  • Organization, thoroughness and great attention to detail. Previous experience in administration and event planning
  • Experience of using computers and office software packages (MS Access, MS Excel, MS Power Point and MS word) is required.

Education (include certificates, licenses etc.)

  • Bachelor’s degree in an area that is related to the office management, security and risk management, political science or social science)

Languages: (indicate fluency level)

  • Fluent in English
