Org. Setting and Reporting The internship is located in the Evaluation Division of the Department of Internal Oversight Services (DIOS) of UNRWA at its Headquarters in Amman. The duration of the internship is a minimum of three months on a full-time basis and may be extended for a maximum period of eleven months. Under the supervision of the Chief of the Evaluation Division, the intern will be assigned tasks that are relevant to their educational background and interests, providing an opportunity to apply and further develop their knowledge. The internship aims to provide practical experience working in a multicultural intergovernmental organization. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. The United Nations accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of the intern or costs arising from injury, illness or death that may occur during an internship. Applicants for internship must show proof of valid medical insurance coverage to cover the full period of the internship at the duty station and provide a medical certificate of good health prior to the commencement of the internship. Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. The internship may be performed remotely or in-person at HQA.

Responsibilities Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Chief of the Evaluation Division, the intern provides substantive, technical and logistical support in the conduct and/or management of centralized evaluations, the quality assurance and management of decentralized evaluations, and any other tasks related to the implementation of the annual workplan of the Division. Duties may include, but are not limited to: - Undertaking desk research on assigned topics and preparing summaries; - Collecting, organizing, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and preparing summary tables and graphs; - Recording interviews and minutes of meetings, preparing meeting reports and summaries; - Assisting in the editing and formatting of draft and final reports; - Organizing and analyzing data on the implementation of evaluation recommendations; - Supporting the drafting of evaluation products such as evaluation briefs and blogs; - Assist in other ad-hoc activities related to the Division’s workplan.

Competencies Communication: Ability to draft clearly and concisely, good written and oral language skills in English. Knowledge of Arabic is desirable.

Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national and cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals.

Client Orientation: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be 'clients' and seeks to see things from client's point of view.

Education To qualify, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: - Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or - Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or - Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, much commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation from an academic programme.

The university degree must be in the social sciences or any related area.

However, applicants must have: - Literacy in the use of standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point); - Demonstrated keen interest in the work of UNRWA; and, - Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Languages

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and Arabic are the working languages of UNRWA. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.

For purposes of this instruction, "child" means (i) the child of a staff member; (ii) the child of the spouse of a staff member (stepchild); and (iii) the spouse of a child of a staff member or a staff member's spouse (son- or daughter-in-law). "Sibling" includes the child of both or either parent of a staff member and the child of the spouse of a parent of a staff member (that is, also half-and step-sibling).

Candidates of certain nationalities must obtain a visa authorizing their stay in Jordan before they depart for Amman to begin their internship. While this is the overall responsibility of the selected candidate, UNWRA may provide information and supporting documents in this regard.

The internship may be conducted remotely due to COVID-19 and its related travel restrictions.

**In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UNRWA premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.
