You have:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent) preferably in journalism, advertising, public relations or communications.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Fluency in Spanish and knowledge of English are required for the internship.
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Information Centers (UNICs) belong to the Information Centres Services (ICS), Campaigns and Country Operations (CCOD) of the Department of Global Communication (DGC). The UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located. They are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of, and support the aims and activities of, the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries. The Department of Global Communications internship is for two months with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department and availability of intern. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under The supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Responsibilities Following the instructions and under the supervision of the National Information Officer (NIO) the responsibilities may include but are not limited to: 1) Support to event management and organization: • Assist and promote in organizing events, campaigns and public outreach activities. • Support outreach efforts with partners and the UN System in Bolivia. • Support the organization of special events and information campaigns, including liaising with relevant UN partners to highlight and publicize key activities such as the observance of special days years and the launching of UN reports. • Assist in compiling basic information for use in the preparation and production of communication products and services about the United Nations’ work in Bolivia as well as on priority global campaigns and official observances. • Cover activities of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, climate change, humanitarian action and human rights. 2) Communication material: • Assist in the design and content of communications material and outreach products, including brochures, leaflets, posters, cards, animation, and short publications. • Support in the elaboration of press releases, content for the web, media monitoring etc. • Cover activities of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, climate change, humanitarian action and human rights. 3) Support Models UN: • Assist in the design of communications and outreach products, including brochures, leaflets, posters, cards, animation, and short publications for Models UN.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must: a. Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, b. Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent), preferably in the fields of journalism, advertising, public relations or communications Applicants must also: -Be computer literate in standard software applications. -Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter. -Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Applicants are not required to have professional experience for participation in the programme.

Languages

Fluency in Spanish and knowledge of English are required for the internship.
