Org. Setting and Reporting The Office of the Special Envoy to the Secretary-General for Yemen (OSESGY) was established in 2012 to facilitate the Yemen’s transition process and assist in the implementation by working closely with the members of the Security Council, the GCC and other international partners.

The Office of the Chief of Mission Support (OCMS) provides operational support to OSESGY, including advisory, operational and transactional support services and, where needed, exercises delegated authority on behalf of clients.

The internship is located in the OCMS with a main focus on protocol related issues.

The Internship is for a minimum of three months from 1 February 2021 to 30 April 2021 with a possibility of extension. As OSESGY is currently working under telecommuting modalities due to the COVID-19 crisis, the working modalities will be discussed to determine whether the intern can attend the office in person.

The internship is UNPAID and part-time (50% of the week). The Intern works five days per week (17.5 hours) under the supervision of the Administrative Officer in the OCMS.

Responsibilities The Intern - Protocol will support the OCMS and will be responsible for the following duties:

•Support the preparation of official correspondence and communication materials for the OCMS in both Arabic and English. •Support and coordinate meetings with host government, draft background documents, minutes of the meeting, and brief notes. •Assist in exchanging information on the dynamics of MoFA, MoI, etc. •Support the establishment of communication networks to increase the mission interactions with relevant authorities. •Maintains close coordination with the UN Resident Coordinator’s office on all operational matters. •Assist in the drafting of routine correspondence and other communications as required. •Assist in the organization of events, workshops, high-level visits, and advocacy events. •Provide logistical assistance in the organization of events, meetings and visits, including drafting and dispatching invitations. •Update and maintain all documents and files (in paper and electronic format). •Perform other related duties as required.

Competencies Professionalism: Good knowledge of relevant operational processes and procedures, including records and filing procedures; ability to work with figures, as well as undertake routine research and gather information from a variety of sources. Ability to research and organize data and information required for briefings, reports, etc. Demonstrated ability to apply good judgment; is conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results. Proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive material appropriately.

The following knowledge, skills or abilities are sought: - Knowledge, skills, abilities in researching complex issues with legal implications; - Knowledge, skills, abilities in key business tools (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, PowerPivot) - Knowledge, skills, abilities in management analytics, visualization or survey design, information hierarchy and design principles - Knowledge, skills, abilities that enable working on consulting-style projects - Knowledge, skills, abilities in communication

Communication Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively orally in English and Arabic. Drafting and editing ability essential in both languages.

Teamwork Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; solicits input by genuinely valuing others’ ideas and expertise; is willing to learn from others; supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not, entirely reflect own position; shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.

Education Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent) (c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.

Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of different opinions and views.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English and Arabic (both oral and written) is required.
