Overview

Support the UNEP team in managing and analyzing environmental governance data.

You have:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Preferred Area of Study: Sustainability Management, Environmental Law, Environment Science, Policy and Leadership, Business Management, Governance, Political Science, or other related fields.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications.
  • Demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. Under the direct supervision of The Regional Coordinator for Environmental Governance in the Regional Office for West Asia in Beirut, the Intern will be assigned daily responsibilities based on the individual's background; the office to which the intern is assigned to; the nature of specific projects and the internship duration. This internship will be taking place in the Regional Office in Beirut, Lebanon. The intern will support the team in managing and analysing data related to environmental governance in the region. Under the direct supervision of the Regional Coordinator for Environmental Governance in the Regional Office the intern will: - Support in legal and policy research from diverse sources to support the implementation of UNEP projects focused on environmental law, access to justice and governance in West Asia. - Assist in maintaining a share repository of relevant sources used across research and publications, ensuring references remain organized, and easily accessible by the wider team. - Preparation of analytical briefs/summaries highlighting trends and developments in environmental governance in the region. - Support engagement with West Asia countries, specifically civil society partners to strengthen legal and policy dialogue on environmental governance. - Support towards the design and development of innovative representations of data/information. - Assist with any other additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Preferred Area of Study: Sustainability Management, Environmental Law, Environment Science, Policy and Leadership, Business Management, Governance, Political Science, or other related fields. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Be computer literate in standard software applications. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
