Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adequate shelter for all. For nearly forty years, UN-Habitat has been working in human settlements worldwide, focusing on building a brighter future for villages, towns, and cities of all sizes. The position is in the UN-Habitat Spain Country office, in Madrid, Spain.

UN-Habitat in Spain is aligned with the corresponding UN-Habitat Strategic Plan, a transformative change in cities and human settlements for a more sustainable, inclusive, resilient, and safer urban future, where no one and no place is left behind. UN-Habitat presence in this country is composed of a “UN-Habitat Office in Spain” located in Madrid and the “City Resilience Global Programme (CRGP)” located in Barcelona.

Since its establishment in 2012, UN-Habitat Office in Spain has linked in-country operational activities and normative work to achieve higher impact and transformational change as well as forging innovative partnerships with government and partners. Thus, promoting a genuine territorial approach for localizing the urban dimension of the Sustainable Development Goals, and implementing the New Urban Agenda at all levels, while at the same time, supporting Spanish partners´ commitment to UN-Habitat global work to facilitate the development of strategic normative outputs.

In-country activities for the implementation of the New Urban Agenda include, among others, supporting national and sub-national governments in the definition and implementation of their urban agendas, strategies and policies, through policy advice, capacity building, technical support and fostering knowledge. Spanish partners´ support to UN-Habitat’s normative work has been focused on the elaboration of global guidelines, fostering knowledge and instruments as well as applying global norms through country-level initiatives, predominantly in the Spanish-speaking world.

UN-Habitat Office in Spain acts as well as liaison for institutional representation and the establishment of partnerships with the Spanish Government, and other stakeholders committed to the mission of UN-Habitat, as well as adding value to the agency's mandate in strategic areas of collaboration.

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Spain Country Office, Madrid, Programme Management Support internship is for 6 (six) months.

The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) considering the organization's minimum requirements and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the interns' assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the direct supervision of the Officer in Charge UN-Habitat Office in Spain, the intern will: - Supports the implementation and follow-up on technical activities linked to ongoing projects carried out by the UN-Habitat Office in Spain: - Supports the organization of Experts Groups Meeting and related seminars. - Supports the development of content, layout and design of relevant communication material, documents and events. - Supports local logistics during seminars and virtual logistics in case of webinars. - Assists in the preparation and review of activities reports, documents and proposals. - Assists the Project Manager and the Head of the Office for Spain in the translation of documents, reports, brochures and project proposals. - Assists the Project Manager and the Head of the Office for Spain in the preparation of presentations, brochures and talking points for events. - Undertakes research as required regarding the different topics addressed in the ongoing projects, related to the implementation of the New Urban Agenda in Spain and the localization of the 2030 Agenda. - Supports the development and follow-up of agreements with key institutional partners. - Participates in team coordination meetings, as well as any other meeting as required. - Assists in the activities that support the ongoing work of the Office in Spain. - Other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent

Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).

Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred areas of studies: Architecture, urban development, urban planning, or another related area of study.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG´s) and/or the New Urban Agenda is required.

Experience in computer software (such as InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, or similar software applications) is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in written and oral English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
