Org. Setting and Reporting 1. Organizational Setting and reporting UNICRI is a United Nations entity established in 1965 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI' s goals are:

 to advance understanding of crime-related problems;  to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems;  to support the respect of international instruments and other standards;  to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance.

This position is located in the CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) Risk Mitigation and Security Governance Programme and, particularly, within the EU’s CBRN Centres of Excellence Initiative, which is aimed at strengthening regional security and safety by sharing good practices and capabilities, by developing guidelines, by identifying and deploying resources to respond to the needs identified by partner countries and by supporting the development of national CBRN policies.

The internship is for an initial period of 2 months, with an opportunity of extension up to a total period of 6 months. Preferably, this internship shall commence in mid-January 2022. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer.

Due to the current international COVID19 emergency and related containment measures and international travel restrictions, the initial months of this internship will be done in TELECOMMUTING, i.e. remotely from home. Therefore, the candidate must be able to telework and must have all necessary arrangements and equipment to perform assignments in teleworking. Should the COVID19-related restrictions and measures be removed, and should the decision to further extend the internship be taken, the internship can be continued from UNICRI's Office in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the intern will be involved in drafting and developing of project proposals aimed to enhance and sustain the CBRN forensic capabilities of partner countries through developing training curricula, conducting capacity building and training activities, producing e-learning and other educational products.

Duties may include, but are not limited to: •Assist in drafting and preparing concept notes and project documents •Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents •Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings •Document, legal and internet research •Assistance during conferences •Working on web-presentation •Evaluation of projects •Compiling statistics •Media analysis •Speech-writing •Performing other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); in the field of law; criminal justice, crime prevention and control, or other related fields; or (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent) in the field of Law; Criminal Justice, Crime Prevention and Control, Project Management, Business Management, or natural sciences is desirable.

In addition, interested candidates must: − Be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point); − Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; − Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Experience in assistance with project management, preferrably in crime prevention and criminal justice is desirable, including assistance with drafting project documents and budget.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
