Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This position is established at West Asia office - Beirut, Lebanon under the direct supervision of the Finance and Economic Transformations Regional Coordinator. The Intern’s duties may include, but are not limited to: - Support internal work under the umbrella topics of Sustainable Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Resource Efficiency and the transition to sustainable development through multiple pathways, including inclusive green economy, green finance and the adoption of sustainable consumption and production patterns through behavioral change. This work revolves around UNEPs high impact sectors which include Textiles, Food and Plastics. - Undertake desk research on the topics and collect information from various sources including technical reports, publications (including UNEP flagships) and relevant webinars. - Assist in creating communication materials, such as articles, briefs, and presentations. - Carry out any additional duties and responsibilities assigned by the direct supervisor.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following educational requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation. d. Preferred Area of Study: Environment Studies, Public Policy and Planning, International Development, or another relevant subject is required. Specific Qualifications: a. Be computer literate in standard software applications. b. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. c. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency of Arabic language is Desirable.
