Duties and Responsibilities

Org. setting and Reporting UN-Habitat is the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, which is responsible for promoting socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities in order to provide adequate housing for all. Currently, the program is headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, and finds its support in the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean – ROLAC, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The United Nations Human Settlements Program, UN-Habitat Andean Countries HUB has been in Colombia since 2003 promoting sustainable urban development. Its purpose is to technically assist national and territorial governments and other social and academic actors, in the implementation of the SDGs, in particular SDG 11 "Sustainable Cities and Communities" and the precepts of the New Urban Agenda. For this matter, its actions are focused on the design, implementation and evaluation of urban public policies and urban planning instruments, using the best practices and knowledge accumulated in the country and in other parts of the world on topics such as planning, Governance, economic development and urban finance, climate change, urban legislation and citizen participation. Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Administrative and Financial Specialist and the Coordinator for Andean Countries, the Intern will: • Support to meetings, formulation of minutes, specific technical research, development of work materials, preparation of documents and presentations; and other inputs required for the implementation of at least 4 projects implemented in the Andean Countries HUB. • Provide accompaniment to the elaboration of technical and economic proposals. • Assist in drafting formal communications and development of presentation materials and reports. • Provide technical support to the Coordination of the HUB and to Coordinators of the different projects. • Support the preparation of terms of reference for the recruitment of personnel and carry out the administrative process of personnel procurement. • Organization of travel agendas and related requirements. • Assist administrative processes related to trips of consultants, payment, contractual processes and other related administrative tasks. • Keep track of correspondences sent and received. • Assist in keeping accurate records of the financial situation of personnel contracts, subcontracts and payments. Qualifications/special skills

Applicants MUST at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent in the past two years. Be computer literate in standard software applications (MS Office Suite). Demonstrate keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Social Sciences, International relations, Politics, Business Administration, Economics and/or related areas. No previous experience is necessary. However, experience in project management cycle will be positively valued. Previous experience with the United Nations or other International Cooperation Organizations will increase the score. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
