The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

The American Heart Association is committed to providing acute hospitals consultative support for treating patients according to the most up to date scientific guidelines. When hospitals treat eligible patients according to these guidelines – patients have better outcomes and less recurring cardiovascular and/or stroke events. This internship will focus on the quality consultation processes that impact participating hospital’s treatment compliance, program retention and position hospitals for national recognition.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 9/9/24-12/6/24
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour
  • Location: Remote position

Internship Outcomes:

Individuals participating in the internship program are provided with an opportunity to:

  • Gain experience in the professional world while learning about board management
  • Complete an internship that enriches your academic and professional resume as well as enriching your personal life by making a difference in the lives of others

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

  • Communicate and engage with team of Quality Consultants to identify and share best practices for supporting hospitals participating in our Get With The Guidelines program and/or research opportunities.
  • Become familiar with The American Heart Assoiation’s National Quality Research Program. Develop a framework for identifying research opportunities along with abstract development and dissemination.
  • Work with QI team leaders to develop and execute C-suite dashboard and/or targeted customer communications.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a BA/BS or higher in a related field of study. Senior or graduate student preferred.
  • Knowledge of and some experience with research projects, research conferences, and the abstract publishing process required.
  • Some knowledge of medical terminology knowledge and understanding of health equity preferred.
  • Prior experience or interest with clinical data preferred.
  • Self-starter with good organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.
  • Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
