Org. Setting and Reporting This internship is located in the Evaluations Team in the Division of Policy, Evaluation and Training, in the Department of Peace Operations at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Department of Peace Operations was established to provide political and executive direction to UN peacekeeping operations around the world and maintains contact with the Security Council, troop and financial contributors, and parties to the conflict in the implementation of Security Council mandates.

DPET oversees the policy and doctrine guiding the work of peacekeeping. In addition, the division has the responsibility to evaluate, at the request of the heads of the departments, how those policies are being applied, gather lessons learned and best practices, and use that information to guide the development, coordination and delivery of standardized training, so as to complete the learning cycle. DPET is also responsible for developing and maintaining strategic cooperation with various UN and external partners.

The Evaluation Team is now mandated to support the development, piloting, and implementation of CPAS in all peacekeeping missions; provide ongoing technical and on-the- ground support to the implementation and management of CPAS in missions; to integrate and/or align CPAS with other UN planning, performance assessment, and IT systems to ensure coherence; and institutionalize CPAS as a UN planning and performance tool with supporting policy and guidance.

The Intern reports to the Chief of the Evaluation Team.

This internship will be undertaken either part time or full time for a minimum period of four months and may be extended up to six months depending on the requirements of the Evaluation Team. The internship can be done remotely or in-person or a combination of both in-person and remote (hybrid).

The internship is UNPAID. For remote internship, candidates must be able to provide proof that they are allowed to work in the country where the internship will be undertaken. For in-person internship, candidate would need to apply for a G-4 visa (supported by the United Nations) or if currently a student with F-1 visa, candidate must show work authorization connected to the F-1 visa.

Responsibilities Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

- Assistance in conducting research on issues relevant to the work of the Evaluation Team, in reviewing existing policies and tools on performance monitoring and performance;

- Assistance in preparing reports, concept papers, policy documents, talking points, articles and other materials;

- Support the development of peacekeeping mission results frameworks for the CPAS;

- Support peacekeeping missions with the management of CPAS and use of its data in communications and reporting;

- Assist CPAS with the development of communications and training materials;

- Participate in the analysis of mission performance;

- Attending and taking notes at online conferences and meetings;

- Perform other duties as requested.

Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

1.Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent)

2.The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for.

3. Proficient in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or similar; Be proficient in standard office automation equipment, scanner, printer, etc.).

4.Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter.

5.Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
