Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Logistics, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Programs.

This position is located within the Security Sector Reform and Governance Standing Capacity (SSuRGe) based in the United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) in Brindisi, Italy.

The political affairs intern reports to the Chief of SSuRGe team based in Brindisi, Italy.

The SSuRGe internship is for 6 months. One (1) post is available.

Responsibilities The political affairs intern will be responsible for the following duties: - Support country- and/or regional-level backstopping activities; - Gather, research, analyse and present information from various sources; - Assist in the drafting of various official documents (e.g. minutes, briefing notes, draft notes…etc); - Assist in the team's planning and preparatory efforts for field support; - Assist in data and information management; - Support the organization of meetings; - Perform other duties as required.

CLIENT ORIENTATION: Consider all those to whom services are provided as ‘clients’ and seek to see things from clients’ point of view; Establish and maintain productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect; Identify clients' needs and match them to appropriate solutions; Monitor ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems; Keep clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects; Meet timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.

Special Notice The internship is unpaid and full-time and does not guarantee employment within the UN upon its completion.

The internship is for a period of six (6) months. Interns work five days per week (35 hours).

REMOTE INTERNSHIP (COVID-19): In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants will be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.
