Org. Setting and Reporting The internship is for an initial period of two months, with an opportunity for extension up to a total period of six months. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours). This position is located in the United Nations Office in Belgrade (UNOB), which conducts political reporting and liaison functions for the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). The intern will work under the supervision of the Political Affairs Officer.

Responsibilities Under the guidance of UNOB Political Affairs Officer, the Political Affairs intern will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Conduct research and analysis of information contained in communications and publications received from different sources, including the press and on social media.
  • Assist UNOB officials with drafting analytical research papers, background papers, and other materials in the area of responsibility.
  • Prepares summaries of articles and reports from a wide variety of sources.
  • Accompany UNOB officials to official meetings as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Accountability: Takes ownership of all responsibilities and honours commitments; delivers outputs for which one has responsibility within prescribed time, cost and quality standards; operates in compliance with organizational regulations and rules; supports subordinates, provides oversight and takes responsibility for delegated assignments; takes personal responsibility for his/her own shortcomings and those of the work unit, where applicable.

    Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.

    Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

    Languages Fluency in one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat, English or French, (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of the other is an advantage. Knowledge of Serbian is required.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions on travel, it may not be possible for applicants who are not based in Thailand to obtain a visa for and travel to Bangkok. In such an eventuality, a telecommuting arrangement could be worked out. Thailand-based applicants may also be asked to work remotely depending on regulations governing UN premises in Bangkok. Applicants must be willing and prepared to work remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
