Org. Setting and Reporting The internship at the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa is for at least two months on a full-time basis - This may exceptionally be extended for a maximum period of six months. It is awarded on the recommendation of the Chief of Staff, in consultations with the Heads of UNOCA's respective Divisions/Units.

Interns are not paid and are responsible for all expenses related to the internship.

UNOCA accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship. Therefore, upon awarding an internship, candidates will be required to sign a statement confirming their understanding and acceptance of the conditions of service.

The internship is located within UNOCA.

The intern reports directly to her/his designated supervisor within UNOCA.

Responsibilities The intern will be supporting UNOCA substantively and administratively and shall focus on the following duties:

1. Research, draft and update country/situation profiles and other background in preparation for meetings, reports, and other events. 2. Assist in the preparation of background notes, talking points and policy briefs for the meetings, missions, and other events organized or attended by UNOCA staff. 3. Contribute to the team’s day-to-day tasks as needed, including administrative and communication matters. 4. Assist in the preparation of summaries and reports of discussions. 5. Attend and take notes at meetings; conferences; and other events. 6. Assist in other ad-hoc activities as instructed.

Allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work. Foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning. Monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary. Uses time efficiently.

Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

1.Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent)

2. The area of study of the prospective intern is related to the functional areas of UNOCA's mandate and work programme.

3. Proficient in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or similar; Be proficient in standard office automation equipment, scanner, printer, etc.).

4.Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter.

5.Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position, Fluency in French (both oral and written) and working knowledge of English is required.

United Nations Considerations According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
