Org. Setting and Reporting We seek motivated interns to support the work of the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General.

This internship is in the Management and Administration Unit working with the Peace and Development Team.

The United Nations Peace and Development Trust Fund was established in 2016 following the Administrative Arrangement signed between a donor and the United Nations. The purpose of the Trust Fund is to provide financial support to Secretariat entities for implementation of projects related to the maintenance of international peace and security; and to support the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

The internship is for a minimum period of three months, with possibility of extension up to six months. In their cover note, interested candidates should indicate their availability.

Interns report to full-time professional staff in our team.

The United Nations internship programme does not provide remuneration; All internship related expenses – travel, insurance, living etc. – are the responsibility of the intern, sponsoring Government or institution; The UN accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents, illness or death during the internship; The intern is responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed; Interns are not eligible to apply for, or be appointed to, any post in UN during the period of the internship or for six months immediately following the end of the internship; The intern must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan; Interns are not staff members and may not represent the UN in any official capacity; Due to the high volume of applications received, we can only contact successful candidates; Interns work full time - five days per week.

Responsibilities The Intern will:

•Draft, edit, proofread and process a variety of documentation and correspondence, including reports and presentations. •Generate a variety of standard statistical and other reports, work orders, etc., using various databases. •Assist in information management, through compiling and organizing information and reference materials from various sources; •Schedule appointments/meetings, attend meetings and supports in note-taking; •Perform related administrative duties as requested by the supervisor; •Assist in other ad-hoc activities as requested.

Education Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;

All interested candidates must: - Be computer literate in standard software applications; - Have a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; - Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or not currently in the United States on a non-immigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa. If already in the United States of America on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization, allowing them to undertake the internship.

United Nations Considerations According to article 101, paragraph 3, of the Charter of the United Nations, the paramount consideration in the employment of the staff is the necessity of securing the highest standards of efficiency, competence, and integrity. Candidates will not be considered for employment with the United Nations if they have committed violations of international human rights law, violations of international humanitarian law, sexual exploitation, sexual abuse, or sexual harassment, or if there are reasonable grounds to believe that they have been involved in the commission of any of these acts. The term “sexual exploitation” means any actual or attempted abuse of a position of vulnerability, differential power, or trust, for sexual purposes, including, but not limited to, profiting monetarily, socially or politically from the sexual exploitation of another. The term “sexual abuse” means the actual or threatened physical intrusion of a sexual nature, whether by force or under unequal or coercive conditions. The term “sexual harassment” means any unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature that might reasonably be expected or be perceived to cause offence or humiliation, when such conduct interferes with work, is made a condition of employment or creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive work environment, and when the gravity of the conduct warrants the termination of the perpetrator’s working relationship. Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
