Org. Setting and Reporting The Resident Coordinator’s Office supports the work of the UN Resident Coordinator and coordinates activities of the UN Country Team in its engagement with the Government as defined by the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF). The position is located in the United Nations Resident Coordination Office (UN RCO) in Accra, Ghana. Under the direct supervision of the Peace and Development Advisor (PDA), As part of the new vision of the Resident Coordinator’s Office, and the new corporate strategy focused on the impactful delivery of the prevention agenda, the Peace and Development Unit is committed to supporting Ghanaian or foreign finalist students in their training. It offers end-of-cycle internships to students who meet the criteria mentioned below, in order to enable them to complete their training cycle and integrate into the professional world.

The RCO is strengthening the capacity of its research unit to meet these challenges by recruiting an intern. This is an opportunity for an enriching experience for students wishing to gain experience in the in-web research and weekly news can be results-oriented research in a UN environment, but also the improvement of their writing skills. The intern will work in the Peace and Development Unit.

The Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) Accra, Peace, and Development Unit internship is for three (3) months.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel, and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the interns' assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the direct supervision of the Peace and development advisor, the peace and development unit and the functional office intern will: - Support the production of weekly, monthly, and bi-monthly analytical notes. - Support the writing of thematic notes contributing to the political economy analysis done by the Economist and the PDA; - Produce weekly news scans for social media analysis and other online thematic conversations - Any other tasks that may be assigned including general assistance to the RCO Advisory Unit

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent

Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office) e.g., Microsoft Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, etc) and Adobe Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred areas of study: Communication, Computer Science, or related areas.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Experience in in-web research is required.

Experience in news scan for social media analysis is desirable.

Experience writing thematic notes contributing to the political economy analysis is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in Oral and written English is required. Knowledge of any other United Nations official language is desirable.
