Duties and Responsibilities

The Secretary General’s General Assembly Resolution 72/279 on the repositioning of the United Nations Development System mandates bold changes for the emergence of a new generation of Country Teams, centred on a strategic Programme with the Government and led by an impartial, independent and empowered UN Resident Coordinator to deliver on the 2030 Agenda.

In Thailand, the United Nations system is led by the UN Resident Coordinator, with the support of the Resident Coordinator Office (RCO).

This intern works under the supervision of the RCO team and Partnership and Development Finance Officer. The internship is UNPAID and full-time for the duration of 3-6 months. Interns work five days per week (35 hours).

The intern will gain first-hand experience with regard to the activities of the UN Country Team through the RCO team in facilitating dialogues with partners, including with Government, the private sector, civil society, and other relevant stakeholders, to improve development assistance policies and practice.

Responsibilities The internship is centred on assisting the RCO team and the Partnership and Development Finance Officer. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents • Supporting the preparation of presentations • Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings • Document, legal and internet research • Assistance during conferences, events and meetings • Supporting social media outreach • Support other/ad hoc activities as seen relevant and needed.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).

Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter and backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Fluency in Thai is an advantage.
