You have:

  • Be a graduate or enrolled in a graduate school programme (i.e. Master's degree or equivalent degree), or be a graduate or enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (i.e. Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree) preferably in law, human rights, political science, international relations, or a related field.
  • Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required.
  • Fluency in Fijian (iTaukei) and Fijian Hindi is an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities

The intern shall support the OHCHR Pacific Regional Office in fulfilling its mission: to work for the protection of all human rights for all people; to help empower people to realize their rights; and to assist those responsible for upholding such rights in ensuring that they are implemented. Daily responsibilities of the Pacific Regional Office intern will include: -assisting the Regional Office with internal and external communication, developing tools and procedures for increased strategic communication on social media and improving advocacy leveraging international days, including through One UN messaging and optimizing communication among the Multi-Country Offices (UNCTs) in the Pacific; - assisting with research and oreparation of reports, documents and other written materials; - assist in responding to requests for information relating to the human rights situation in the region and/ or countries concerned; assist in preparing and updating country profiles, briefing packages, daily and monthly updates/reports; -assist in taking minutes of meetings, -attending and organising meetings/conferences and events on behalf of the Regional Office -perform other professional duties as requested.

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for the United Nations Secretariat internship programme, applicants must, at the time of submission, be a graduate or enrolled in a graduate school programme (i.e. Master's degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or, be a graduate or enrolled in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (i.e. Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree) preferably in the area of law, human rights, political science, international relations, or a related field, or have graduated with a university degree as defined above.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Fluency in Fijian (iTaukei) and Fijian Hindi is an asset.
