Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The UN Women Country Office (CO) Kazakhstan is based in Nur-Sultan. CO programming includes support to Government and civil society organizations in the development and implementation of innovative approaches aimed at achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment. In Kazakhstan, UN Women supports efforts of the national partners and UN agencies in implementation of gender equality commitments in compliance with the UN human rights conventions ratified by Kazakhstan. It provides strong and coherent technical support of gender equality priorities in national and UN efforts and support to build effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors. It strengthens coordination on gender equality and women’s empowerment programming and enhances cooperation for gender responsive post-2015 development agenda’s implementation at the national and sub-regional levels.

Under supervisor’s oversight and supervision, the Intern shall provide support to the effective management implementation of budgeted activities. In this context, the Intern shll provide administrative, logistical, communication and/or knowledge-management support to the Office in compliance with UN Women policies and procedures.

Until further notice interns will work partially offline and online.

Duties and Responsibilities

Description of Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and operational support to ensure effective implementation of activities;
  • Support to communication team by drafting press-releases and media advisory, communication strategy for project components and events, social media support, development of social media content, including development of visuals and web design;
  • Assist in preparing multimedia content, including photo and video materials within and in line with the project and branding guidelines;
  • Assist in design and layout of the project knowledge and information materials (briefs, policy papers, presentations, etc);
  • Assist in social and media monitoring, including reporting on key trends and developments in the traditional and social media and political situation;
  • Maintain CO audio-video archive and ensure that its regular replenishment;
  • Drafting talking points, key messages, concept notes, correspondence, notes, documents, reports, preparing required contracts, keeps the necessary flow of correspondence.

Learning and development:

  • Interns have access to UN Women’s online learning system as well as free internal trainings. Interns are encouraged to come up with new ideas and initiatives for possible implementation during their tenure.
  • Interns are required to complete UN Women’s mandatory courses within the first two weeks of their assignment. The courses are available through the online learning management platform.
  • Interns are encouraged to organize and participate in social activities to ensure healthy workplace engagement and relations.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:

  • University studies in one of the following disciplines: business administration, economics, communication, marketing or other relevant subjects is required.

  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation, or Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree programme and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Language:

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) in English and Russian are required. Knowledge of Kazakh is an asset.

Renumeration:

Interns who are not in receipt of financial support from other sources such as universities or other institutions will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs for the duration of the internship.
