Org. Setting and Reporting The UN Resident Coordinator System encompasses all organizations of the UN system dealing with operational activities for development, regardless of their formal presence in the country. The UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC) is the designated representative of the UN Secretary-General and leading the UN Country Team (UNCT) and assumes the overall responsibility for – and coordination of – the development activities of the UN system. The UNRC Office for Mauritius and Seychelles has a multi-country (MCO) status. The main office is based in Mauritius and also covers Seychelles.

Key functions of the UN RCO include: strategic analysis, planning, and positioning of the Country Team; preparation and monitoring of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF); support to joint UN programming and operations management; policy guidance; joint advocacy and communications to enhance UN coherence and improve overall program impact of the UN System in Mauritius and Seychelles.

The UN RCO for Mauritius and Seychelles is looking for an intern who has a strong interest and passion in working for the UN development system and contribute to its crucial mandate of enhancing the coherence of the UN System. The internship will provide the successful candidates with a unique opportunity to learn about how the UN system operates at the country level. Among others, the intern will: learn about the functions and roles of a wide range of UN agencies; gain insight into the country programming process of the UN; and become familiar with how the UN interacts with government counterparts. The interns will be under the supervision of UN RCO, Mauritius and Seychelles, Port Louis, RCO Team Leader.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator (UN RCO), Mauritius and Seychelles, Port Louis internship is for six (6) months.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the supervision of the RCO Team Leader, the interns will: - Support the preparation process of the UN Common Country Analysis for Mauritius and Seychelles. - Provide quality support to the UNCT in implementing the UN Government of Mauritius Strategic Partnership Framework (SPF)/COVID-19 Socio-Economic Response Plan (SERP) for Mauritius and Seychelles. - Support the UN RCO in organizing knowledge exchange workshops/webinars in Mauritius and Seychelles as well as disseminating high-quality knowledge products to key stakeholders. - Collaborate in facilitating information exchange among UN agencies in the context of UN reform. - Support the work of the various UNCT Inter-Agency Working Group. - Assist to monitor the latest socio-economic development trends in Mauritius, Seychelles, and in the region. - Support the Communication & Advocacy activities of the RCO and the UNCT activities including assisting in the implementation of the social media plan, organization of communication events, and designing of communication materials. - Support in the preparation of various meetings, attending meetings, and taking minutes. - Support in the organization of various RCO activities and events.

Results and Expected Outputs : - Support effectively provided in the preparation and drafting of the CCA and the UNCT Annual Results Report. - Support effectively provided in the organization of knowledge exchange workshops/webinars in Mauritius and Seychelles as well as disseminating high-quality knowledge products to key stakeholders. - Support provided in the implementation of the activities under the SPF and the SERP for Mauritius and Seychelles. - Support effectively provided to UNCT communication and advocacy activities in Mauritius and Seychelles. - Support effectively provided with preparations of various meetings and notes of meetings made available in a timely manner. - End of Internship Report.

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent

Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office, Adobe).

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred areas of studies: International Development Studies, International Relations, Social Sciences, Political Science, Law, Economics, Management, or other relevant fields.

Previous experience as a volunteer or experience of another culture (i.e., studies, volunteer work, internship) is an asset.

Ability to work under tight deadlines and multitask is required. .

Ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds is required.

Proficiency in computer software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
