Duties and Responsibilities

This internship is in the Monitoring and Evaluation Service (M&ES) of the Business Transformation and Accountability Division (BTAD) of the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC). The incumbent will report to the relevant supervisor.

The Monitoring & Evaluation Service (M&ES) primary role is organisational performance measurement: • Providing the Secretary-General with assurance over the use of delegated authorities. • Supporting Heads of UN Secretariat entities to better understand and evaluate their entity’s performance. Turning information into insight by highlighting performance trends and systemic issues that help the Organisation better deliver results.

As part of M&ES, the Intern will support the development and implementation of projects through applying skills in research and quantitative / qualitative analysis. Responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and the intern's assigned team as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: • Scoping and helping deliver research and analysis projects to improve administrative performance. • Experiments and explores new tools and approaches to analysis and knowledge management. • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications/special skills

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

To qualify for an internship with the UN, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above). We are open to a broad range of educational and professional backgrounds.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant (such as F1 visa) status, will be required to obtain a G4 visa. Interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization (CPT/OPT), allowing them to undertake the internship. Terms of the internship programme: -The minimum duration of this internship is three months which can be extended up to a total period of six months. -Interns are expected to work on a full-time or part-time basis in the entity that has selected them, under the supervision of a staff member at an appropriate level. The working hours will be discussed with your supervisor at the time of the interview. Internships may be undertaken on the basis of flexible working arrangements if: -The receiving entity agrees in writing to accept an intern on the basis of flexible working arrangements. -Interns agree that they are required to work the equivalent of a minimum of at least two months on a full-time basis or four months on a part-time basis in order to receive recognition of service as an intern.
