Job description

The project “Capacity Development for the Implementation of Rwanda’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)” is implemented by GIZ in Rwanda as part of the Rwandan-German Climate and Development Partnership. The project aims to improve the institutional and financial framework conditions of state and non-state actors in Rwanda for the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of the country’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). The project provides technical support, policy advice and capacity development measures to the Ministry of Environment, other public institutions, the private sector, civil society organizations as well as the science and research community, which are key actors in Rwanda for the coordination, implementation and monitoring of the country’s national climate goals (NDC).

Your tasks

As part of your internship, you will have the following tasks, among others:

  • Support the implementation of the project “Capacity Development for the Implementation of Rwanda’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs)” and the operationalization of the Rwandan-German Climate and Development Partnership
  • Contribute to the implementation, coordination and monitoring of regular exchange, cooperation formats and dialogue among local stakeholders and Development Partners for NDC implementation
  • Support the identification, design, implementation and monitoring of capacity development measures for the project’s stakeholders (private sector, civil society, academia and research institutions, etc.)
  • Contribute to the mobilization and participation of state actors, the private sector, civil society organizations and the science and research community in the coordination and implementation of Rwanda’s NDC
  • Support monitoring, reporting, research, knowledge management and digitalization-related activities and processes within the project
  • Support the preparation, coordination and organization of internal and external project’s events such as delegation trips, team retreats, etc.

Your profile

  • Student in the 4th academic semester onwards with (very) good grades and a recommendation for an international internship abroad
  • Very good written and oral expression skills in English and German. Knowledge of French is an advantage
  • Practical experience in an international professional context, including with a development cooperation agency or a civil society organization or with the private sector (e.g. Small and Medium-sized Enterprises)
  • Strong interest in development cooperation with Africa or any country of the Global South ideally in the African context or in a similar context
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly in an intercultural team with strong skills such as reliability, discretion and high motivation
  • Structured work style with a high degree of self-organization, creativity and strong communication, presentation and facilitation skills
  • Willingness to work and reside in Kigali, Rwanda, with some occasional duty trips to relevant districts upon request by GIZ
  • Excellent knowledge on the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams etc.)

Please be informed that you are only allowed to apply for this internship, if you are currently enrolled as a student or graduated not longer than six months ago from the start of your internship.

We pay a monthly stipend of €2.134,52 (gross). Depending on the country of assignment a monthly expatriation allowance (gross), predetermined by GIZ will be paid on top.
