Org. Setting and Reporting UNRWA, the largest United Nations operation in the Middle East with over 30,000 staff working across five areas of operation, is looking for highly committed personnel wishing to make a change. Responsibilities The intern will work on the following potential areas of international law under the supervision of one or more DLA lawyers:

- Carry out research, analysis and/or legal advice on public international law, including international human rights, humanitarian and refugee law, as well as United Nations privileges and immunities; - Assist with legal advice and analysis on the interpretation and application of the resolutions of the Security Council, General Assembly, the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, host country agreements or arrangements and other instruments relevant to the mandate and operations of UNRWA; - Assist with the drafting and review of legal documents, including correspondence, summary notes, briefing papers and reports on a wide variety of international law matters, including on the mandate of UNRWA and humanitarian principles; - Assist in servicing trainings, events and meetings, including notetaking and preparation of summary reports and action points; - Perform any other task as may be required.

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

- Have completed a law degree and is enrolled in a graduate programme in law (Master’s degree or equivalent); - Have successfully completed at least two full academic years of study towards a law degree, including courses in public international law, human rights, humanitarian law or international refugee law;

Specialization in public international law, international human rights, international humanitarian law or refugee law is desirable.

In addition, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

- Literacy in the use of standard software applications. - Demonstrate interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter of the United Nations. - Demonstrate the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, including willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNRWA. All arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. UNRWA may assist by providing selected interns with visa support letters.

At the stage of acceptance of an internship placement, interns must prove to the satisfaction of UNRWA that they have adequate medical and accident insurance coverage that will be valid for the duration of the internship.

The internship program is intended to provide recent law graduates or students, with an opportunity to gain practical experience in international law, while contributing to the work and operations of UNRWA. There is no expectation that the internship will lead to longer term employment with the Agency.
