Org. Setting and Reporting The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) internships are for three (3) months with the opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the Executive Directorate.

Responsibilities Responsibilities of the internship position encompass all aspects of the Directorate’s work on preventing and countering the abuse of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) – to include the Internet, social media, and emerging technologies – for terrorist purposes. These responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in collecting and analysing data contained in communications and publications received from difference sources, including from UN documents, reports of international and regional organizations, and open-source outlets;
  • Assist in researching and analyzing legislation, policies, trends and new developments relating to ICT, including moderating terrorist content online, terrorist use of emerging technologies, privacy and data protection, digital evidence, the use of emerging technology, human rights, and other related topics;
  • Assist in preparing documents and other administrative tasks necessary for the organization of CTC/CTED meetings, workshops, webinars and other events relating to ICT matters;
  • Prepare background notes, statements and talking points for meetings, missions and other events of relevanct to the ICT team;
  • Research, draft and update ICT information for country profiles and assessment tools, and prepare requested background documents for high-level meetings, assessment visits, and other events;
  • Review, translate and edit documents as required;
  • Attend and take notes at meetings, conferences and other events; assist in the preparation of meeting summaries, web-stories, and reports of discussions;
  • Assist in other ad-hoc activities as instructed.

Education Applicants must be enrolled in graduate degree programme (e.g., MA, LLB., JD, LLM, PhD) in political science, international relations, law, security, cyber security, counter-terrorism, human rights, conflict resolution or related area of international affairs and/or political science.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this internship, fluency in written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in another United Nations language is desirable.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.

In this context, all internationally recruited staff members shall be required to move periodically to discharge new functions within or across duty stations under conditions established by the Secretary-General.
