Org. Setting and Reporting This internship is in the Administrative Law Team in the Human Resources Policy Development Division (HRPDD) of the Human Resources Department (HRD), United Nation Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). The duration is for three months with a possible extension of maximum six months, depending on the needs of the department.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.

The Administrative Law Team advises on all aspects of International Administrative Law and the Administration of Justice, handles disciplinary matters, and contributes to policy development in the field of International Administrative Law and Human Resources.

Responsibilities- Conduct legal research and analysis on issues related to International Administrative Law, including UNRWA’s governing legal instruments and issuances and jurisprudence from the UNRWA Dispute Tribunal and United Nations Appeals Tribunal;

- Conduct policy research and analysis;

- Assist in drafting and reviewing legal documents, including memoranda, briefs, policy documents and correspondence;

- Assist in the disposition of disciplinary cases, including review of investigation reports, drafting allegations of misconduct, recommendations to management and correspondence;

- Assist in the collection and analysis of disciplinary data;

- Assist in the disposition of Decision Review Requests (DRRs) contesting administrative decisions;

- Assist in verifying information related the ClearCheck system aimed at preventing the deployment or re-employment of personnel previously dismissed for sexual misconduct or who left the Agency while under investigation for sexual misconduct.

Education To qualify for an internship with the UNRWA Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

1) Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme in law (second university degree such as a J.D., LL.M. or equivalent, or higher); or,

(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme and have completed at least four years of studies in law (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).

2) Be computer literate in standard software applications;

3) Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

4) Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and Arabic are the working languages of UNRWA. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage

Special Notice Interns are not financially remunerated by the UNRWA. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
