Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable human settlements development and the achievement of adequate shelter for all. For nearly forty years, UN-Habitat has been working in human settlements worldwide, focusing on building a brighter future for villages, towns, and cities of all sizes. The position is in the New York Liaison Office.

UN-Habitat's New York liaison office maintains the agency's close working links with United Nations headquarters. It represents UN-Habitat at inter-agency committees as well as inter-governmental meetings, particularly the General Assembly and Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The office also promotes sustainable human settlements and urban development in North America.

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Inter-Agency/Programme Support internship is for 6 (six) months.

The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussions between the intern and the supervisor(s) and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member. The UN-Habitat New York Office is the liaison office for intergovernmental and interagency affairs at the United Nations Headquarters.

Under the direct supervision of the Programme officer, intern will: - The intern will have the opportunity of learning and working in a very dynamic environment. - The intern will be able to contribute to virtual activities, including Webinars and online meetings. - The intern will also engage collaboratively in research and analysis as well as in drafting and reviewing documents on several topics as well as engage with stakeholders from different sectors and parts of the world. - Provision of general virtual office support such as processing correspondence; maintaining online files and records in SharePoint; taking meeting minutes for events. - Assisting with the organization of virtual events and training sessions, supporting with the preparation of agendas, co-drafting background materials, and meeting reports, providing technical support to the 14.04.2023 moderator during the virtual event, supporting outreach, preparing summaries, reviewing participants lists and preparing documents to be posted online. - Supporting the research for the preparation of papers and reports related to the work of the office through the collection of data from multiple resources, assisting in reviewing and analyzing data from multiple resources, and researching and organizing information and assisting with analyzing trends. - Supporting staff with stakeholder engagement programme and partnerships programme and participating in virtual and live UN Headquarters events, as appropriate. - Supporting the stakeholder programme in preparatory efforts to the UN Water Summit, among others. - Supporting staff with outreach engagement, including on communications, social media and website content updates.

Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent

Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).

Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred areas of studies: International relations, social science, urban planning, urban design, Architectural study and other related field of study.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Experience in performing analytical research and drafting reports, presentations, and other written content as well as managing databases in excel is required.

Knowledge in organizing events and coordinating activities between different stakeholders is desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
