Duties and Responsibilities

The position is located in the Office of Information and Communication Technology, Enterprise Solution Service, Enterprise Application Centre – Americas. OICT is responsible for defining strategic direction for ICT in the Secretariat. It provides oversight of ICT programmes, systems, applications, and decision-making. Enterprise Solution Service in OICT develops, enhances, operates, and supports systems with enterprise scope. The incumbent reports to an Information Systems Officer in Application Support Services. The office provides various application support, including but not limited to, LEAD (senior leader recruitment system) and Unite Visa (tool which provides visas and the host country related services to the United Nations employees and their dependents). She or he will provide support to Applications Support Services in the area of technical writing and functional testing related activities. Working closely with the project manager/members, duties to be performed may include any or all of the following, depending on need: • Participate in functional acceptance testing of enhancements and defect fixes in enterprise applications using established UN standards, tools and procedures • Perform load/stress testing to ensure compliance with defined performance parameters • Adhere to testing deadlines within the team by communicating defects within the prescribed format/system for traceability of resolution • Support the organization and execution of unit and integration testing, developing testing scenarios and test scripts and assisting in user acceptance testing (UAT) • Create or update existing, user manuals to facilitate user adoption • Create of update functional and/or technical specification documents to describe system behavior • Carry out assignments and technical tasks in collaboration with a cross-functional technical team • Report work progress to the manager and relevant team • Taking notes during meetings and drafting meeting minutes • Assisting in other IT Functions as necessary The intern will have an opportunity to gain practical knowledge and understanding in the project and resources planning, implementation, and operation of United Nations global information and communications technology

Qualifications/special skills

To qualify for an internship by the United Nations Headquarters Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (1) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (2) Be enrolled in the FINAL academic year of a university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); Demonstrated intention to study further or work in a field relevant to the work of Information and Communications Technology is required. • Strong knowledge of data management techniques, quantitative analysis and methods is required. • Knowledge of software development life cycle standards and methodologies is required. • The candidate is required to have inclination for system UX testing for Global applications. • Knowledge on IT Service Management (ITIL Foundation) and Project Management (Prince 2) is required. • Familiarity with cutting-edge technology and tools and/or have experience with social networking and collaboration platforms is required.

Languages

English and French are working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the internship advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of a second official UN language is an advantage.

Visa and Work Authorization Mandatory Requirements: For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents or on another non-immigrant (such as F1 visa) status, will be required to obtain a G4 visa. Interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa, and if required, employment authorization (CPT/OPT), allowing them to undertake the internship. Terms of the internship programme: -The minimum duration of this internship is three months which can be extended up to a total period of six months. -Interns are expected to work on a full-time or part-time basis in the entity that has selected them, under the supervision of a staff member at an appropriate level. The working hours will be discussed with your supervisor at the time of the interview. Internships may be undertaken on the basis of flexible working arrangements if: -The receiving entity agrees in writing to accept an intern on the basis of flexible working arrangements. -Interns agree that they are required to work the equivalent of a minimum of at least two months on a full-time basis or four months on a part-time basis in order to receive recognition of service as an intern.
