Org. Setting and Reporting This internship is within the Strategic Solutions Section, Policy, Strategy and Governance Division, Office of Information and Communication Technology (OICT), for a period of three months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, if required by the section. Our innovative team is looking for interns that have interest in technology innovation and, in particular, in the open source community.

The internship is UNPAID, full-time and for three months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the Office.

Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of an Information SystemsOfficer in the section to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and the intern's assigned section as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: •Assistance in developing an open source community strategy •Managing, monitoring and moderating open source communities •Assistance in fostering the creation of a strong community •Identifying risks and opportunities to increase growth, engagement and retention •Developing metrics to measure the success •Interacting with other OICT teams responsible for technology innovation •Support the activities of OICT as needed as deemed necessary by their supervisor

Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a)Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b)Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).

Candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications. They should also have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have demonstrated the ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Educational background or exposure to human resources, public administration or related issues is desirable.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in English is required; and [‘fluency’ or ‘knowledge’] of French is [‘desirable’ or ’an advantage’]. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
