Org. Setting and Reporting UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance. UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East with more than 30,000 staff. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.

The Information Security Office of UNRWA is seeking 2 Cybersecurity Interns to support the work of the office. The intern will report administratively to the Head of the Information Technology Service Centre at the Headquarters Gaza and technically to the Head of the Information Security Office at the Headquarters Amman.

Responsibilities The interns will be given the opportunity to work in various Cybersecurity projects, under the mentorship of highly qualified cybersecurity specialists, to gain experience and knowledge in this area and will also support and assist with:

  • Management of security equipment, including firewalls, web application firewalls, IPS/IDS, etc.
  • Vulnerability management process, running vulnerability scans and following up with teams on the detected issues
  • Deployment of security controls to user computers, including anti-malware software, Intune, switching computers from Active Directory to Azure Active Directory, etc.
  • Application security
  • Security awareness
  • Incident response, analyzing incidents and following up on security alerts
  • Other tasks of the Information Security Office.

    Education - A university degree from an accredited educational institution in computer science, computer engineering or information security from an accredited educational institution.

  • Good IT Background in one of the following areas: networking, cloud, servers, Vulnerability scanning , applications development
  • Good knowledge of OS : Windows & Linux,
  • Good theoretical understanding of information security

    Job - Specific Qualification IT certifications will be an advantage is desirable

    Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

    Languages Fluency in spoken and written English.

DURATION: The internship period will be 4 months. Extension of this period is subject to the performance evaluation and the continuity of the needed functions.

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNRWA. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
