Overview

Support the ESA Innovation Services Section in data management and digital developments.

You have:

  • You must be a university student, preferably studying at master’s level.
  • A good knowledge of English or French is required.
  • Knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset.
  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, IT, Data Science, or a related field;
  • Familiarity with Python, particularly in web scraping, data processing, and handling regular expressions;
  • Experience with Power BI and Power Automate for flow automation and dashboard visualisation;
  • A resolutive and self-driven approach with a strong interest in contributing to the commercialisation channels within the European Space Industry;
  • Proactivity and hands-on mindset, willing to delve into the commercialisation channels for the European Space Industry.

Our team and mission

Within the Commercialisation Department and under the direct authority of the Head of ScaleUp Programme Division, the Innovation Services Section follows three main objectives:

  1. nurturing innovation and de-risking projects through dedicated environment, expertise and funding;
  2. brokering innovative (space) solutions to ESA programmes or European industry;
  3. diversifying space as a business (New Space).

Among other tasks, the Innovation Services section is in charge of the following business lines:

  • ESA Phi-Lab NET, whose mission is to bring research closer to commercialisation by bridging disruptive research and commercial needs;
  • ESA Technology Brokers Network, whose mission is bridging the gap between space and terrestrial markets.

Field(s) of activity for the internship

Topic of the internship: Digital Developments at ESA Innovation Services Section

You will support the ESA Innovation Services Section on the following matters: work on the core development of the technology brokers and Phi-Lab NET databases.

This system automatically aggregates and manages data from various online and offline sources. Your work will primarily focus on integrating ESA Spark Funding and ESA Phi-Lab NET activities and optimising data management processes to ensure the seamless flow of information.

Key Responsibilities:

  • refine and expand our Python-based system responsible for web scraping, PDF data extraction, and data management. You'll utilise a combination of HTML parsing, HTTP requests, and regular expressions to ensure robust data collection from multiple sources;
  • support the iterative creation of dashboards using Power BI in close collaboration with our technology brokers network and ESA-CIC country managers;
  • further development of tech description database and linking to spin-in activities.

Education

You must be a university student, preferably studying at master’s level. In addition, you must be able to prove that you will be enrolled at your University for the entire duration of the internship.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another ESA Member State language is an asset.
