Duties and Responsibilities

The Policy team is looking for two (2) interns: one (1) to support on the monitoring, learning and evaluation (MEL) approach as the Flagship is a learning initiative, and one (1) who will support with everyday responsibilities linked to the Flagship. In close consultation with the Policy team to determine exact requirements as the project progresses, the intern would do some but not all of the duties below: •Update the Flagship Initiative SharePoint site, ensuring that key documents, communications, and milestones are recorded and organized. •Code documentary evidence in support of the learning-focused (developmental) evaluation •Develop an inventory/overview of the Flagship Initiative documentary evidence with routine reporting. •Engage conceptually in the Flagship Initiative learning approach, supporting the refinement of the learning methodology as needed. •Conduct desk-based research in response to requests by the Flagship Initiative countries. •Support the organization of learning meetings and events, including developing content, scheduling, and issuing invites. •Support the drafting of background documents and reports, and may conduct research as needed. •Support the Follow-up to the Implementation of the 2023-2026 OCHA Strategic Plan as needed. •Organize events, meetings and taking notes. •Support drafting of statements, key messages, correspondence, presentations, summaries and other required materials and products on humanitarian issues. •Support day-to-day engagement with the Flagship countries (Colombia, Niger, South Sudan and the Philippines), and other sections of OCHA.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Knowledge of research methods and evaluation is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
