ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

The Malawi Country Office of WFP is seeking motivated and qualified candidates to enroll for the 2023 Internship Programme. This position will be based in the Human Resources Unit, in Lilongwe. The internship will be for the period of 6 months from 1 June, 2023.

JOB PURPOSE

The HR Unit in in the process of driving use of data in management and operational decision making. The role Intern: HR Data Analytics & Visualization will be a great asset to lead and influence the WFP Malawi office in integrating this approach in our decision-making process by providing a variety of analysis, summary, reporting, and data visualization support. The position reports to the Head of HR.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

• Support internal reporting and data collection in the various workstreams and establish a HR analytics dashboard • Leverage various tools and technology to analyse data and identify trends • Take the lead in data analytics and visualization to aid in reporting and provide visual summaries by deploying the relevant tools/software. • Assist in the review and development of desktop procedures and job aids • Initiate process improvements based on data outcomes • Coordinate tasks in support of small projects and events • Participate in the establishment of HR data and development KPI for review by the head of HR. • Develop data proposals and business cases for process improvement, and help with auditing and improving HR data processes

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

• Basic understanding of Human Resources functional areas and practices • Strong organizational, project management and analytical skills • Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities and timeframes • Strong inter-personal skills, willingness to interact with a diverse employee population and ability to maintain cohesion and discipline while working in a team setting • Ability to work independently and effectively across all levels of the organization • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access and data visualization software

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Must be a recent graduate (within the last 6 months) or actively pursuing an undergraduate degree and has competed 2 years of undergraduate study or pursuing graduate programme in Business Management, Business Analytics, Operations Management, Data Science, Applied Science, Human Resources or related field. Language: Fluency in both oral and written English.

LEARNING ELEMENTS:

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should:

  • The successful candidate will be assigned a project to work on for the duration of the internship. A completed project report and a presentation will form 50% of the deliverables for the internship.
  • Create a repository of reference material of knowledge on HR data analytics and visualization.
  • Understand the basic operations of the HR unit within WFP and the United Nations.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Type of Contract: Internship Duty Station: Lilongwe, Malawi Contract Duration: 6 Months • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP. • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs. • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education. • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers, or sisters.
