Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all (www.unhabitat.org). Currently, UN-Habitat-Andean Countries HUB is implementing the project “Inclusive Cities, Communities of Solidarity”. UN-Habitat, IOM, and UNHCR as United Nations agencies with mandates relating to human settlements, migration, and refugee protection decide to join forces with the European Commission's Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO) to carry out an inter-agency project, which seeks to reduce the vulnerabilities of Venezuelan migrants and refugees, and address the impact on host communities to design stable and durable solutions with a medium- and long-term vision in 9 cities, and selected territories at a lesser reach within cities, called Territorial Intervention Units, in Latin America and the Caribbean. The first phase of the project has been defined as cities subject to action: Barranquilla and Cúcuta/Villa del Rosario in Colombia, Quito in Ecuador, Lima in Peru, and specific intervention in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In addition, a second phase was added that includes the second city in Ecuador and Colombia, these being Manta and Bucaramanga respectively, and the city of Chaguanas in Trinidad and Tobago as well as Panama City in Panama, while in the case of Lima, Quito, and Santo Domingo the intervention is extended to two territorial units in the city. The intern will be under the direct supervision of the UN-Habitat, Bogota, Andean Countries HUB, Administrative and Financial Specialist and Coordinator.

The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), Bogota, Andean Countries HUB internship is for six (6) months.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely for a part or the entirety of the internship. The work hours during the internship shall be determined based on individual discussion between the intern and the supervisor(s) taking into consideration the minimum requirements of the Organization and the time difference between the hosting office and the location of the intern.

The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background; the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period.

Under the direct supervision of Administrative and Financial Specialist, and Coordinator, the intern will: - Support the HUB Coordinator and the Communications Analyst in the implementation of the projects of UN-Habitat Andean Countries HUB, in tasks related to internal and external communication, as well as in the planning of the strategic agenda, management of events and missions, development of work materials, preparation of documents, contact with media, and/or making notes and/or press events. - Develop different media products (web, social media platforms, advertising promotion and broadcast media) to disseminate the results derivate from UN-Habitat HUB Andean Countries Projects to different target audiences. - Support in completing journalistic reports on online and offline platforms on topics related to UN-Habitat HUB Andean Countries to incorporate the message and the topics of the campaign into all events and relevant products. - Support the design of graphic pieces and image editing on demand of the HUB and in line with the image requirements of the United Nations, UN-Habitat and other campaigns needed. - Support in the layout of technical documents and presentations developed in the HUB to facilitate the readability of the reports. - Support video editing processes. - Support the design of websites in the framework of the Projects implemented in the HUB. - Keep the graphic contents updated with the information provided by the projects team. - Assist the Coordination of the HUB in the graphic processes. - Support the drafting of formal communications and support all communications. - Perform other tasks assigned by the supervisor as necessary. .

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent

Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office).

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter and the New Urban Agenda;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Preferred areas of studies: Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Advertising, Marketing, Social Communication, Journalism, or related areas.

No previous experience is necessary. However, experience in design and branding, management of digital retouching and graphic and video editing (Photoshop, Premier, illustrator), social media, and development of external and internal communication strategies will be positively valued.

Previous experience with the United Nations or other International Cooperation Organizations is an asset.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Experience in social media, design, branding, digital retouching, graphic/video editing, or layout of documents is required.

Experience working on the design or formulation of a communications strategy is desirable.

Experience working with the United Nations or other International Cooperation Organizations is desirable.

Participation and contribution to research projects are desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
