Org. Setting and Reporting The Intern will work in the Office of the Director-General/Executive Director (ODG/OED), Policy and Inter-Agency Coordination team. The envisaged starting date for the internship is in July 2021 for a period of six months.

Gender equality and women's empowerment is a universally agreed objective—deriving from the Charter of the United Nations, which unequivocally reaffirmed the equal rights of men and women—and is confirmed in a number of commitments taken through, among others, the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women of 1979, the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, various resolutions and decisions of the United Nations General Assembly, the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council and the Commission on the Status of Women, and the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 5 ("To achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls"). Gender equality is the overarching and long-term development goal, to be achieved on the programmatic side through gender mainstreaming in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all policies and programmes, and in the United Nations Secretariat by aiming at achieving a 50/50 gender balance in staff at all levels.
