**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Field Office Duty Station: Bangkok Job Family: Education Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 24-FEB-2022 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism PROGRAMME BACKGROUND -------------------- The Section for Inclusive Quality Education (IQE) is one of the two education sections of UNESCO Bangkok that aims to enhance UNESCO Member States’ capacity to provide equitable, inclusive and quality basic education for all in the Asia-Pacific region. IQE is responsible for six programme areas, namely (i) Education 2030 regional coordination, (ii) education planning and finance, (iii) basic education from early childhood to the secondary level, (iv) inclusive education and gender equality, (v) quality of education, and (vi) HIV prevention and health promotion. The IQE’s Basic Education team promotes inclusive and gender-sensitive basic education for children of diverse background through various approaches such as inclusive pedagogy, multilingual education, multigrade teaching and gender equality in education. In line with UNESCO's global strategy, IQE is emphasizing gender mainstreaming in all of its programmes. UNESCO Bangkok serves as the secretariat and co-chair of the Education 2030 Thematic Working Group. The Inclusive Basic Education programme supports the promotion of inclusive, equitable and quality early childhood care and education and pre-primary education, primary education and secondary education (lower and upper) in the region as a human right. UNESCO Bangkok, as a chair of Asia Pacific Multilingual Education Working Group (MLE WG) and Asia Pacific Disability Inclusive Education Working Group (DIE WG), has worked collaboratively to raise awareness and remove persistent inequalities in the educational attainment of ethnolinguistic minorities and children with disabilities. **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- Under the overall guidance of the Section Chief, the intern will work closely with the responsible Programme Specialist(s) and assist the Inclusive Basic Education team to support the Inclusive Education (IE) and Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) programme. In particular, the incumbent will contribute to programme implementation through the following tasks: • Assist in the organization of meetings and activities under Asia Pacific Multilingual Education Working Group and Disability-Inclusive Education in Asia-Pacific Working Group; • Support the planning and organization of high-level events such as the 2nd Asia-Pacific Regional Education Ministerial Conference (June 2022) and World Congress on ECCE (Nov 2022); • Support the implementation of, but not limited to, the following projects: “Strengthening Costing and Financing SDG4.2 in the Asia-Pacific Region”, “Empowering ECCE Teachers with a Transformative Vision of Education”; • Assist in the production of ECCE and IE related reports, presentations, webpage and relevant advocacy materials, when required; and • Support activities for the programme areas under the Inclusive Basic Education team – this may include conducting web research for required information, drafting correspondence and concept note of events, taking notes and report writing, drafting and publishing news materials, and updating and maintaining website contents. Competencies ------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS** --------------------------- **Education** Currently enrolled in relevant graduate/post-graduate programme OR recently graduated within the last 12 months from relevant graduate/post-graduate programme at the time of application. **Language** Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of other UNESCO official languages is an asset. **Competencies and skills:** • Strong research and analytical skills • Experience studying, working or volunteering in Education programmes with young children, ethnolinguistic minority children, children with disabilities, girls’ in education, other marginalized groups, etc. • Excellent communication skills, including writing skills • Good skills for event organization (both in-person and virtual) • Strong computer and IT skills, with proficiency in office software packages; working knowledge of infographic design is desirable • Ability for taking initiatives and independent problem solving, creativity and innovation • Ability to communicate and work effectively and efficiently in a multicultural context LEARNING OBJECTIVES ------------------- The Intern can expect to obtain: • Enhance his/her understanding of education development in countries in the Asia-Pacific region, especially in the areas of early childhood care and education and inclusive education; • Gain practical knowledge on the role of UNESCO and its contributions to Member States, particularly in the education sector; • Gain useful knowledge and experience on international and regional development work.
