Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.

The overall objective of the UNEP's Economy Division is to encourage decision-makers in government, local authorities and industry to develop and adopt policies, strategies and practices and technologies that promote sustainable patterns of consumption and production, make efficient use of natural resources, ensure safe management of chemicals and contribute to making trade and environment policies mutually supportive. It promotes the development, use and transfer of policies, technologies, economic instruments, managerial practices and other tools that assist in environmentally sound decision making and the building of corresponding activities.

The Climate Change Mitigation unit acts as the GEF implementing agency, as such, it develops project proposals and then manage these projects on the ground. The unit support governments and non-governmental organizations to develop, implement and execute mitigation and climate transparency projects.

Interns work five days per week (35-40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

Responsibilities Under the supervision, guidance and mentoring of the Co-Portfolio Manager of the Climate Change Mitigation Unit, the Intern will support the unit, on project implementation and particularly project development of new GEF Impact or Global Programmes.

The internships will be within the Economy Division, Energy and Climate Branch, Climate Change Mitigation unit and duties and responsibilities: will as follows:

- Draft or review consistency and completeness of requested documents or presentations (in English, and potentially in Spanish, French or Portuguese). - Liaise with key partners of the projects and the unit (Executing and co-executing partners, other UNEP units, the UrbanShift team). - Draft Theory of Changes - Assist in the organisation of events, such as Steering Committee Meetings and Stakeholder Consultations - Support project-related activities - Undertake research work - Perform other duties as required by the Unit.

Education Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in International Relations, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Environmental Management or Public Administration or relevant fields. Preference may be given to Masters candidates.

b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with a university degree.

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English is required for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of one of the following UN language is an advantage French and Spanish. Knowledge of Portuguese is also an asset.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
