The education for Health and Wellbeing Team provides technical assistance to UNESCO field offices and regional partners, as well as direct support to programming in Thailand on strategic priority areas such as comprehensive sexuality education (CSE), in the contexts of school health, HIV prevention education and adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR); and addressing school violence and bullying (SVB) and cyberbullying, including school-related gender-based violence (SRGBV), including violence against women and girls and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (SOGIE). The team also collaborates with other UN agencies on regional initiatives relating to CSE and preventing gender-based violence in schools. This internship opportunity is to support the work of the education for Health and Wellbeing Team both in Thailand as well as in the Asia-Pacific region on the following topics: CSE, teachers’ capacity building on social and emotional learning for CSE, school health, and addressing SVB, including SRGBV and SOGIE-based bullying. Long Description ---------------- **Main tasks and assignments:** Under the authority of the Director of UNESCO Bangkok Office, the overall supervision of the Chief of the Section for Inclusive Quality Education, and the direct supervision/guidance of the Regional Advisor for HIV and Health Education of the Health and Wellbeing Team (HWT/IQE), the Intern will be expected to perform the following tasks: - Support the team to liaise with the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), Ministry of Education, Thailand to assist OBEC to strengthen the existing OBEC CSE e-course for teachers and teachers’ capacity building for effective delivery of life-skills based CSE. - Provide communications support for national and regional meetings/events in Thailand such as orientation/training workshop to teachers/educational staff related to the Connect with Respect classroom programme implementation and activities addressing gender based violence in schools; - Support the team to liaise with the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, national teacher unions, and/or teacher networks and other national partners as appropriate, regarding the promotion of inclusive, gender-equitable, safe and non-violent, health-promoting learning environments; - Support the team in planning and organizing activities to promote key technical and normative resources such as the UNESCO/UN Women Global Guidance on Addressing School-related Gender-based Violence and the UN International Technical Guidance on Sexuality Education (ITGSE); - Support Thai-English-Thai translation and documentation of HWT’s meeting minutes and partner consultations, and provide initial quality control on translation work (English to Thai and vice versa) prepared by external contractors for the Health and Wellbeing team, responses to country information requests from Thai partners and communication content prepared for the Bangkok office’s website and social media channels; - Other tasks, as required by the Regional Advisor for HIV and Health Education. Long Description ---------------- **Learning opportunities during the course of the internship:** - Gain practical knowledge on the role of the United Nations (UN) and other international organizations in supporting youth and young key populations and promoting human rights, gender equality, and safe and inclusive learning environments; - Experience in working with United Nations (specialized agency in Education) in a multi-cultural environment at the national, regional and international levels; - Enhanced understanding of the role of UNESCO and its contributions to Member States, particularly in the education sector; - Experience in working with the government of Thailand in the area of education development, with particular focus on sexuality education and addressing SVB/SRGBV in Thailand; - Practical skills for organization of national, regional, and international conferences/seminars; - Improved knowledge and experience with the UN system and its coordination mechanisms. - Gain experience on programmatic follow up for regional and national thematic meetings, planning of stakeholder meetings, and creation of advocacy products for UN meetings, social media platforms and campaigns, targeting diverse audiences; and - Better understand Asia-Pacific countries’ approaches to promoting inclusive education and CSE that respects sexual and gender diversity through exposure in national meetings and learning opportunities.
