You have:
- Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
- Be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
- Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
- A field of study that is closely related to the type of internship is required.

This internship is designed to be in-person and full-time (35 hours) but can be adjusted based on request by the successful candidate

Duties and Responsibilities
Econometric Research & Data Analysis • Conduct econometric modeling and quantitative analysis using statistical software (e.g. Stata, R, Python). • Apply causal inference techniques (e.g., OLS, Panel Data Analysis, Instrumental Variables, Difference-in-Differences) to assess social protection policies' impact on economic outcomes. • Work with datasets from international organisation, and national statistics agencies to analyze trends in income distribution, labor market outcomes, and economic resilience. Policy Research & Documentation • Conduct literature reviews on social protection, income distribution, and economic development in Africa. • Contribute to the drafting of an analysis report and policy brief summarizing findings for policymakers. • Assist in synthesizing econometric evidence into policy-relevant insights. Data Visualization & Presentation • Create data visualizations to illustrate findings. • Develop slide decks and briefing notes for engagement with policymakers, African researchers, and development partners. Stakeholder Engagement & Support • Assist in organizing policy discussions and webinars on social protection and employment policies. • Support coordination with African research institutions, policymakers, and development partners.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
