Duties and Responsibilities

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. The internship in the (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, International Trade and Integration Division in Santiago, Chile) will last 3 to 6 months, depending on the needs of the Office. The intern will support the team in the research activities related to infrastructure, transport and logistics services. Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and the internship period. Duties may include: · Compiles, research and gather information from a wide variety of sources. · Collects and organize data. · Processing data and statistics. · Identify, interpret, analyze and format data and statistics. · Summarizes pertinent material. · Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings. · Prepares input for electronic databases and the internet. · Prepares charts, graphs and other outputs for reporting and presentation of various data. · Builds special data sets for specific research needs or for reports.

Qualifications/special skills

1 Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. 2 Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. 3 Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint. 4 Knowledge of MS Access and Stata or Phyton will be an advantage.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish is required for the internship. Knowledge of Portuguese or an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
