Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Multi-Country Office (MCO) for Micronesia is based in Kolonia, Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and provides services to five North Pacific small island States: Palau, FSM, Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), Nauru and Kiribati. The internship at the MCO is for six months, working either physically at the duty station or virtually.

The internship is unpaid and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or in the office to which they are assigned

Responsibilities Under the guidance and supervision of the Economist, the intern will contribute to the research work of the MCO. While responsibilities vary over time according to the needs of the office, typical tasks include the following:

- Undertake background research, conduct literature reviews and draft inputs. - Collect and analyze data and other materials necessary for the respective research projects. - Contribute to the publication of UN policy reports and papers. - Contribute to conducting the UN Common Country Analyses (CCAs). - Undertake other tasks as required by the work programme.

Competencies The United Nations Core Competencies include: Communication: Ability to draft clearly and concisely, good written and oral command of English.

Teamwork: Good interpersonal skills, and ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from different national and cultural backgrounds to achieve organizational goals.

Planning & Organizing: Ability to identify priority activities and assignments, adjust priorities as required, allocate the appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work and monitor and adjust plans and actions as necessary.

Education The applicants to the programme must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).

Work Experience No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations secretariat.
