Duties and Responsibilities
of The internships are located in the Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS),Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria. Applicants have the possibility of being engaged for a period of maximum of six months, subject to the needs of the office and the availability of the candidates. The envisaged start date for the internships is as of February/March 2024. The internships are UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Interns will report to the Programme Officer, at UNODC’s Prevention, Treatment and Rehabilitation Section (PTRS).
The intern will support the team with daily responsibilities, depending on the individual’s background as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: - Assistance in drafting and preparing official documents; -Assistance in drafting reports, presentations, web-, social media- and other PR materials; - Research on drug use situation and on scientific evidence related to substance use prevention and treatment and care programmes and services; -Assistance in the preparation of technical assistance, workshops, meetings, high-level events and conferences; -Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings; -Assistances during conferences and meetings.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
