Org. Setting and Reporting This internship position is offered for a period of six months starting in January 2022. The successful candidate will be assigned to the Trafficking in Persons / Smuggling of Migrants Unit under the overall supervision of the UNODC TIP/ SOM Unit coordinator and direct supervision of National Project Officer based in Abidjan.

The objective of the mission is to assist the National Coordinator of the project in the operationalization, implementation and monitoring of work related to the smuggling of migrants within the framework of the projects “Improving the criminal justice response to trafficking in persons through integrated actions” (JTIP?) and "Strengthening the capacities of West African States to develop a human rights-based response to migrant smuggling and to respond effectively to human rights violations related to irregular migration" (PROMIS Project) and more generally within the UNODC Country Programme in Côte d’Ivoire and the Region (ROSEN). The internship is UNPAID and full time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours).

Internships can be carried out in-person, entirely remotely or hybrid taking into account the COVID-19 situation at both the duty station and the intern’s country of residence as well as the interns’ ability to pay for travel and accommodation expenses. Additionally, interns can travel to the duty station only if they hold sufficient health coverage for related Covid-19 expenses, including testing.

Responsibilities Under the supervision of the National Project Coordinator, the candidate will have the following tasks and responsibilities: - Assist in the administrative and financial coordination of the project, - Assist in the preparation/revision of detailed work plans for project implementation, - Contribute daily to the implementation of project activities within the deadlines set by the work plan, - Contribute to the guidance and cooperation with project partners regarding project implementation, - Assist in the regular evaluation of the progress of activities and document the project with all relevant materials, - Contribute to the strengthening of the network with other partners with an interest in the project's field of intervention, - Support the Project in actions aimed at increasing the visibility of the project with the support of the communication team of the TIPSOM Unit of the Dakar Regional Office, - Contribute to the organization of project evaluation activities, including visits from partners, donors and evaluators, - Ensure the collection of relevant and up-to-date information from different sources for project implementation and evaluation, - Classify all programmatic, budget and financial transaction support documents under the direction of the Project Manager, - Assist with provision of information/guidance to implementing partners on the implementation of projects on the production of supporting documents for expenses related to Project activities, - Provide administrative and substantive support for the preparation and implementation of all activities related to the fight against trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, including workshops and training seminars, - Perform any other task compatible with his or her duties.

Education To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: - Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation; OFFICIAL PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY IN SUPPORT OF ONE OF THE ABOVE OPTIONS HAS TO BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION - Be computer literate in standard software applications; - Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and - Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. - Familiarity with the area of combating the smuggling of migrants / migration or trafficking in persons is an asset. - Knowledge in the area of project elaboration, implementation and monitoring as well as familiarity with international development cooperation are desirable.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position(s) advertised, fluency in both English and French is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
