Duties and Responsibilities

The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean is one of the five regional Commissions of the United Nations. It was founded in 1948 with the purpose of contributing to the region's economic and social development. Its mission includes the design, monitoring and evaluation of public policies and the provision of advisory services, expertise, and training to Governments, as well as support for regional and international cooperation and coordination activities. Please visit our website at www.eclac.org for further information. The internship in the (Office, Division, Duty Station) will last up to 4 months, depending on the needs of the Office. Candidates may be selected throughout the posting period, on an "as-needed" basis. Under the supervision or overall guidance of Senior Economics Affairs Assistant. The intern will support the team of the Deputy Executive Secretary in the implementation of the knowledge management strategy and the activities and initiatives derived from it, particularly those tasks related to the development of strategic knowledge mapping tools. The intern must report directly to the coordinator designated by the Deputy Executive Secretary for the implementation of the strategy. The projects the intern will collaborate on are as follows: Monitoring the implementation of the KMS (Knowledge Management Strategy), launching the foresight, innovation, and artificial intelligence lab, strategic knowledge mapping tool. - Document the monitoring of the KMS implementation. - Support in minutes and tasks related to the organizational structure of the lab. - Support in reviewing, documenting, and testing data-based mapping tools. - Keep databases updated. - Review and clean (if applicable)code using Python. - Support in data capture, preparation, updating, and visualization tests. - Support in experimenting with data science and artificial intelligence tools.

Qualifications/special skills

(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Applicant must have good knowledge of programming language such as Python. Knowledge in Machine Learning Techniques and generative AI applications is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
